In the city, SFO…

My X Spot™ = In the City

My X Spot™ = In the City

As you know, I love to “Xperience” life! …everything from the great outdoors to the urban landscape.

Recently, I had the opportunity to take a road trip to San Francisco, California. It was one of many treks to the city I’ve experienced over the years. While I love the great outdoors and the solitude it provides, my soul also craves the people watching and interaction with others urban life has to offer. BTW, it’s true about the beautiful women in California.

San Francisco is populated with a lot of interesting residents and it’s also a destination for many foreign travelers so you get exposed to a good variety of people and personalities. Hence, I’ve been able to meet people from all parts of the world. Interesting that they all like their libations (that could be because I meet a lot of them while sitting at the bar); Best part of that is that after a few cocktails, you’re soon conversing like you’re long lost friends.

The one thing that all foreign travelers that I spent time with had in common is that they all wanted to visit San Francisco so they could “Xperience it.”

The Urban Xplorer Summer Xperience…

The Urban Xplorer Summer “Xperience.”

It’s officially Summer! Sun, fun, and… (Insert your experience here) 😉

Summertime is the perfect season to get out and explore the world around you. Especially in California where the weather is ideal for experiencing the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe and enriches the scenery naturally found on a warm day at the beach.

Rightfully so, Tahoe promotes itself as the urban trailhead. It’s a destination that provides the opportunity for Urban Xplorers to either hike into the vast wilderness and camp in the middle of nowhere, go glamping next to the lake or experience the great outdoors from the balcony of their 5 star accommodations.

However, one of the best benefits of living in Northern California is the fact you could hike up a mountain top in Tahoe and experience the sunrise in the morning and on the same day experience the sunset over the Pacific Ocean sitting next to a bonfire on the beach.

We’d love to share in your “Xperience.” If you have an Xperience that would inspire others to explore the world around them we’d love to help you encourage others to do the same. You could share your Summer Xperience with UX at: http://www.urbanxplorer.com/submit-your-story/

Summertime, Xperience it.

NY marathon Wissam H xperientialist urban xplorer explorer image story

X spot™ = NYC Marathon, New York City, USA

…AN INSPIRING STORY ORGINALLY FEATURED ON UX’S XPERIENTIALIST STORIES.

I was an overweight kid. All my life I was bullied and told I could not properly do any physical activity. One day I decided to change that. I started going to the gym, running and eating less. The start was extremely hard, both physically and mentally. The most difficult part was having to overcome the psychological barrier that I created over the years from hearing people tell me that I could not do it.

After months of sweat and tears, I managed to lose 50 pounds, going from an XL to a size S T-shirt! I accomplished my first goal to lose weight!…

Now, I wanted to prove to myself and others, who had ridiculed me in the past, what I could achieve. I registered to run the NYC marathon. Mind you that I have never done any races in my life, my first race would be a marathon (26.2 miles for those of you who didn’t know). I trained exhaustively, ran, and made many sacrifices in pursuit of accomplishing the second part of my goal.

The day of the marathon was very emotional for me. There I was on the start line, scared, nervous; wondering if I wasn’t cut out for this. However, I managed to overcome those fears and start running.

Mile after mile, sweat, pain, …and more pain.  I tried to take all the positive energy from the spectators and motivate myself.

And after 26.1 miles of running, the finish line in sight, I started crying uncontrollably. When I crossed the finish line crying, with my medal around my neck, the only thought in my head was : I made it, I can do it, I did it!.

Based upon my experience I am confident that anyone with enough will and effort can make their dreams come true.

The RT series is crafted with NylonUX™ brand fabric. Urban Xplorer’s signature vintage style backpacks, messenger style bags, and accessories provide a way to stand out among your group of friends; Especially amongst those who still lug around the same basic bag they had in grade school.

UX’s gear is designed to accommodate the needs of today’s tech savvy travelers. There are multiple, easily accessible, storage options to carry your laptop and tablet. In addition, Urban Xplorer’s innovative Rapid-Expansion-Volume Options (aka REVO) system provides a way to customize your bag according to your needs. REVO increases the functionality of UX gear via a design concept that allows owners of UX gear to add optional accessories and/or increase the bag’s internal capacity. Also, by design there is ample space to organize the other belongings needed for your travel experience.

UX’s RT series line of products can easily transition from the formal to the informal. It is gear that can be used both at the office and for a weekend road trip.

99 bottles of beer on the wall…

99 bottles of beer on the wall
99 bottles of beer on the wall…makes me want to sing thirsty!

Undeniably, there are some good Guinness influenced escapades that originate from the 2 am last call in Dublin, CA. However, for the beer aficionado, I’m sure they pale in comparison to the Guinness Storehouse, Dublin, Ireland Xperience.

For those who have made the pilgrimage to Guinness HQ, the image above is probably a familiar site. It’s a picture of Guinness bottles through the years courtesy of my cousin, Mark, who is a connoisseur of all things beer and someone who is always out there Xperiencing life.

Just like all tequila drinkers have a story to tell, so do all Guinness lovers… Though after some late college nights quite often the tequila drinkers needed someone else to fill in the blanks of their story. The following commercial from Guinness seems to tell the story of the people who I know who love to drink the beer:

Capturing my X Spot…

cropped-DSC_1821.jpg

An “X Spot” is a place or “Xperience” that allows you to escape everyday life and/or allows you to indulge in something that nurtures one’s soul.

Although there is nothing like the Xperience itself, sometimes it’s nice to have captured pictures of it. …Other times a mental image stored in your memory may be best if the picture may contain incriminating evidence against you. Gone are the days of “it wasn’t me, I wasn’t there, prove it.” Now it’s more like “I could see how you may think that’s me in the picture, but it it’s not.”

Just about everyone has a camera at their fingertips so there millions of uninspiring, mediocre pictures inundating your friends’ instagram, twitter, and facebook accounts. Why should they look at yours…?

One article I came across at grindtv.com was titled “7 tips for capturing a killer action sports shot.” In addition to seeing some killer photos, I learned some good tips from the author, Travis Burke, about capturing some “compelling and unique images.”

Capturing inspiring images is what will separate you from your friends spam…

Xperience it…

At a minimum, we are out to expose the Xperientialist lifestyle… However, our ultimate goal is to inspire people to “Xperience it” …to live it.

In today’s world someone could become a virtual expert in just about anything while lying in bed and accessing the internet. It reminds me of the armchair quarterback; the self-proclaimed “expert”.  We all (..the rest of us) know that to become an authentic expert at anything you need to experience it first hand. That is why we champion the life of the “Xperientialist”; someone who experiences life to the fullest and believes that life experience is the basis of all knowledge. They live by the creed I know, because I do. Only until we have experienced something first hand can we truly understand and appreciate the experience. Until then we’re just commentators on the sideline.

Based upon that belief, we’ve created a brand that embraces the perspective that “you can never relive a weekend.” A brand that helps you escape and experience life. Think about it, friendships are developed over time and the “Oops maybe I shouldn’t have done that” stories are always more interesting than the “I wish I had only…” ones.

“Xperiencing it” doesn’t necessarily equate to jet setting around the world. It could include anything from wingsuit sky diving to something as simple as a night out with the boys, savoring the complexities of a truly refined bottle of craft beer or single malt scotch with friends or the weekend road trip.

To quote the famous singer, song writer, philosopher, Tim McGraw “Live like you were dying”…

Xperience it
