This may end up being the “other” category…

In the city, SFO…

My X Spot™ = In the City

My X Spot™ = In the City

As you know, I love to “Xperience” life! …everything from the great outdoors to the urban landscape.

Recently, I had the opportunity to take a road trip to San Francisco, California. It was one of many treks to the city I’ve experienced over the years. While I love the great outdoors and the solitude it provides, my soul also craves the people watching and interaction with others urban life has to offer. BTW, it’s true about the beautiful women in California.

San Francisco is populated with a lot of interesting residents and it’s also a destination for many foreign travelers so you get exposed to a good variety of people and personalities. Hence, I’ve been able to meet people from all parts of the world. Interesting that they all like their libations (that could be because I meet a lot of them while sitting at the bar); Best part of that is that after a few cocktails, you’re soon conversing like you’re long lost friends.

The one thing that all foreign travelers that I spent time with had in common is that they all wanted to visit San Francisco so they could “Xperience it.”

“Living the dream….”

"Living the dream..."
“Living the dream…”

Just had a race last weekend… It was the coldest race I have ever been to; Boise, ID, below 10 degrees. By race time it, maybe, warmed up to 20 degrees.

This was a qualifying race that was early in the day since I was no longer prequalified. I set the fastest time in my practice round giving me first gate pick in my heat. At this point I was doing everything I could to keep my hands from freezing. I got the holeshot in my qualifier and took second sending me into the night show.

I ended up with a pretty good night; 8th in my heat, 6th in my LCQ, and 17th overall for the night!

I have one round left this weekend and I’m going to try to put it in the main event.

To be an authentic expert at something you must first experience it, because at Urban Xplorer® we believe life experience is the basis for all knowledge.

Give X Back is an Urban Xplorer® initiative that was created to give back to the communities it is a part of through supporting programs that enhance a person’s life experience. Through helping others broaden their knowledge base and understanding of the world around them we hope to help empower others to make a difference.

X equals…

Every person and organization has at least one thing of value to give back, whether it’s money, time, or something else. We refer to the “something else” variable as “X”. The possibilities…

X could = time…

X could = opportunity…

X could = money…

X could = empowerment…

X could = hope…

X could = inspiration

X could = life experience…

X could = ???…

The power of X… If, for example, X = the sum of what one person/organization gives back, envision the impact the power of 2X, 3X, 4X, etc. will have the community you are a part of. Give X Back™ and Xperience it™…

The Urban Xplorer Summer Xperience…

Summer experience Urban Xplorer roadtrip travel vacation ocean fbpost

The Urban Xplorer Summer “Xperience.”

It’s officially Summer! Sun, fun, and… (Insert your experience here) 😉

Summertime is the perfect season to get out and explore the world around you. Especially in California where the weather is ideal for experiencing the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe and enriches the scenery naturally found on a warm day at the beach.

Rightfully so, Tahoe promotes itself as the urban trailhead. It’s a destination that provides the opportunity for Urban Xplorers to either hike into the vast wilderness and camp in the middle of nowhere, go glamping next to the lake or experience the great outdoors from the balcony of their 5 star accommodations.

However, one of the best benefits of living in Northern California is the fact you could hike up a mountain top in Tahoe and experience the sunrise in the morning and on the same day experience the sunset over the Pacific Ocean sitting next to a bonfire on the beach.

We’d love to share in your “Xperience.” If you have an Xperience that would inspire others to explore the world around them we’d love to help you encourage others to do the same. You could share your Summer Xperience with UX at: http://www.urbanxplorer.com/submit-your-story/

Summertime, Xperience it.

A dream come true…a story of faith, commitment, focus, and perseverance.

NY marathon Wissam H xperientialist urban xplorer explorer image story

X spot™ = NYC Marathon, New York City, USA

…AN INSPIRING STORY ORGINALLY FEATURED ON UX’S XPERIENTIALIST STORIES.

I was an overweight kid. All my life I was bullied and told I could not properly do any physical activity. One day I decided to change that. I started going to the gym, running and eating less. The start was extremely hard, both physically and mentally. The most difficult part was having to overcome the psychological barrier that I created over the years from hearing people tell me that I could not do it.

After months of sweat and tears, I managed to lose 50 pounds, going from an XL to a size S T-shirt! I accomplished my first goal to lose weight!…

Now, I wanted to prove to myself and others, who had ridiculed me in the past, what I could achieve. I registered to run the NYC marathon. Mind you that I have never done any races in my life, my first race would be a marathon (26.2 miles for those of you who didn’t know). I trained exhaustively, ran, and made many sacrifices in pursuit of accomplishing the second part of my goal.

The day of the marathon was very emotional for me. There I was on the start line, scared, nervous; wondering if I wasn’t cut out for this. However, I managed to overcome those fears and start running.

Mile after mile, sweat, pain, …and more pain.  I tried to take all the positive energy from the spectators and motivate myself.

And after 26.1 miles of running, the finish line in sight, I started crying uncontrollably. When I crossed the finish line crying, with my medal around my neck, the only thought in my head was : I made it, I can do it, I did it!.

Based upon my experience I am confident that anyone with enough will and effort can make their dreams come true.

The world as I know it…

Guinness commercial

The choices we make reveal the true nature of our character…

In my journey through life, no matter where in the world I’ve explored, I’ve noticed certain commonalities with the various cultures I’ve experienced such as a person’s desire to be a part of a group, parents who sacrifice so their children could lead a better life than they did, and a man’s search for purpose and happiness.  However, the one truism that stands out above all is… “the choices people make reveal the true nature of their character.”

Throughout the years, the relationships I’ve cultivated have consistently proven to me that good people are good people; not based solely upon the cordial things they say, but together with the things they do. In other words what they say is in alignment with what they do. This is definitely not so with people who lack character; people who, irregardless of the accuracy of a statement, tell you what you want to hear to get what they want to get.

Life experience is truly the basis of all knowledge. Although I’ve gained wisdom through the books I’ve read and through the insight of others, for me, nothing could adequately replace my life experiences with regards to understanding the character of others. When I first saw the Guinness commercial titled  “The choices you make reveal the true nature of your character” I immediately connected.

Without a doubt when you surround yourself with good people good things happen…and visa versa.

Life,… Xperience it.

You can never relive a weekend…

Urban Xplorer backpack explorer vintage bag gear Tahoe

“You can always retake a class, but you can never relive a weekend.” …the rallying call in college that rationalized the impromptu Thursday night weekend road trip. And the impetus behind many of the “oops, maybe I shouldn’t have done that” stories that are so fond in my memory. If you only knew… Thank God you don’t!

The six years “in” college (Yes, I have a 6 year degree) or should I more accurately say “enrolled” in college, were memorable. Did you ever find it interesting how the life experiences stood out more than the formal college classes and how the informal part of the college equation is something that can’t adequately be taught or learned in class, yet it is such an integral part of the college experience?

“You can never relive a weekend” is philosophy about life; about choosing to live life to the fullest each and every day and going out in the world and ” Xperiencing it.” There is a profound difference between experiencing a life with “no regrets” or living a would of, could of, should of, if only…life; constantly reflecting on a world of what might have been.

Life…Xperience it
